Answer the following questions in no less than 300 words but no greater than 1000 words put together...Character's background (their past and present): Yoda was a member of the Jedi Order for centuries. He trained many students and rose to the head of the Jedi Council. As the Clone Wars proceeded Yoda watched everything he worked for go to pieces as the Jedi Order and the Republic itself fell to Palpatine, culminating in the establishment of the Empire and the slaughter of almost all the Jedi. He then went into exile on Dagobah to wait for the Skywalker twins to come of age.
Character's personality:Yoda is a very grandfatherly Muppet, though the exact sort of grandfather he is most like depends greatly on the exact person he is dealing with. With most of the younglings, he is extremely patient and encouraging. However, if he realizes that a student has greater than usual potential, he tends to push much harder. Where he often lets less gifted students beat him at lightsaber practice in order to build their confidence, he will accept nothing but the best from the truly adept. Being children, they seldom take this as the high praise it in fact is.
The ability to discern what exactly a student needs derives from an excellent understanding of people which goes far beyond Force based intuition. Others are often astounded that he knows exactly how they feel in a situation. One does not become grandmaster of the Jedi Order without the ability to read a situation. The full extent of his understanding is not
always appreciated, as he uses it to ensure people get what they need in the situation. This does not necessarily overlap with what they want.
Throughout his career, Yoda was repeatedly faced with the transition between thinking of the other Jedi as his students to regarding them as equals as they moved up in the ranks. He was in general successful in this regard, becoming close friends with the council he led, though he did always consider himself responsible for them.
As a Jedi, Yoda has immense respect for all life, as it is all part of the living Force. One of the many reasons he never went to the Dark Side was that its destructive capabilities could never compare to life itself. And one thing the Dark Side cannot do is create.
Along with his great wisdom, Yoda also has a rather playful side. This most likely is a contributing factor in his fondness for children, though the children themselves seldom realize it. The younger members of the Order generally only know Yoda the Great and Powerful. The Masters on the Jedi Council, however, have been on the receiving end of his mischief. Also, on occasion, his cane in their shins, which he would never pull on the younglings.
Yoda is generally a very traditional Jedi and his manner of leading the Council reflected this. He strongly believes in their manner of training. In particular, he does not believe any good will come of training older students who are already touched by fear and anger. This is coupled to a very traditional black and white view of the Dark Side. He is particularly jaded about this at his current canonpoint.
Yoda was a force to be contended within the Jedi council. Whether it was a matter of who was to be trained or which of two conflicting Force ideologies were to prevail, he generally got his way. Having served so long as the Grandmaster, he came to define what it meant to be a Jedi. This likely was a factor in his inability to foresee the demise of the Order while holding himself responsible for it.
Anakin's fall has left Yoda somewhat skeptical about destiny. While he had long espoused the importance of heeding visions and working toward a destiny, that... didn't work out so well with the whole Chosen One thing. He is thus beginning to prefer a philosophy of reading the
current situation and living in the current moment that he will ultimately teach Luke Skywalker in twenty years time. This was a notable turnaround from his earlier arguments with Qui Gon. He's realized that he still had a great deal to learn about the Force even at his age and found himself in the position of student with Qui Gon's ghost.
Character's skills/abilities/powers: HE'S YODA.
Yoda is widely considered to be one of the most powerful Jedi Masters of his time. He's adept at such Jedi skills as telekinesis, battle meditation (influencing the morale of an entire battlefield), absorbing energy, Jedi mind tricks and enhancing his own physical abilities. He possesses precognitive abilities, though they had been clouded by the Sith of late because otherwise they would have been an epic plothole when it came to the fall of the Jedi Order. Dooku suspected that if Yoda WERE ever to go to the dark side, it would end very badly for Sidious.
Despite being old and tiny, Yoda is highly skilled a lightsaber combat. Less than a handful of Jedi and Sith were able to fight him on equal footing. He has mastered all seven forms, but prefers Ataru as it is well adapted to miniature combatants. He also does excellent flips.
Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.: His lightsaber, his cane and a sailor suit
Are you bringing your character to
ten_fwd from another game? If you are, which game?: Yes,
exitvoidIf you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s): Yoda was in the game for the entirety of Gamma Phase and half of Beta. Since the fall of the Jedi is recent in his mind, the constant peril was largely more horrors for someone that life has already ground down. He didn't change notably but it does mean that he's used to the idea of being somewhere new and trying to help however he can despite it being very different from the hermit path he had appointed for himself. He will feel some guilt that the Enterprise is so gosh darn nice. At least in the horror game he didn't feel guilty about living in luxury while almost everyone he knows is dead.
Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them? Mostly because of my father It's been a while since I played him and I was starting to miss him. Plus there's a fair sized Star Wars cast. And maybe in Trek he can have nice things. You never know.
